CANBERRA HOUSE
Brief: To redesign the kitchen, dining and living space of the mid-century Canberra home of a father and daughter. Their request was to “Create a place of rest, sanctuary and laughter for my family and guests that is Modernist in function and style.” The design needed to be child friendly and flexible enough to grow as the family develops.
The finishes, colours and furniture take cues from the Australian bush surrounds, dominated by many varieties of eucalyptus trees. The buildings original concrete block structure is revealed and painted in a clean, calm white to brighten and expand the space. The original floorboards have also been retained and along with the glorious smoked eucalyptus veneer, the materials take center stage.
The design and layout are high functional, minimal and feature the highest quality finishes and equipment for a design to grow with the family.
